Florida A&M University Proposes First Tuition Increase Since 2013, Effective Fall 2026; Maintains Commitment to Affordability

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M University (FAMU) has announced a proposed amendment to Regulation 3.017 – Schedule of Tuition and Fees. The amendment, authorized by the Florida Board of Governors on June 18, 2025, introduces increases in the Out-of-State Fee for non-resident undergraduate, graduate, and law students. Earlier this summer, FAMU opted to postpone implementation in Fall 2025, giving families more time to plan for a 15 % increase in Fall 2026.

“FAMU has not implemented a tuition increase since Fall 2013, reflecting FAMU’s long-standing commitment to keeping higher education accessible and affordable,” said Nichole Murry, acting chief financial officer. “The increase will be used to meet operation demands, maintain student services and enhance the student learning environment, and ensure that all students make an equitable contribution towards the escalating cost of instruction.”

Despite this adjustment, FAMU continues to rank among the most affordable universities in the nation. With in-state tuition and fees averaging $12,548.65 per semester (15 credits/on-campus) and out-of-state costs at $18,492.70, FAMU remains well below national averages. The university also offers robust financial aid, with 77% of first-year students receiving need-based assistance and an average net price of $11,558.00 after aid.

The proposed change will be submitted to the FAMU Board of Trustees for approval at approximately 9:00 a.m. September 18, 2025 .
