Florida A&M Crushes Jackson State 11-1
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Junior William Brown put together a brilliant performance at the plate Saturday, hitting two homers to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Jackson State Tigers 11-1.
Freshman Garrett Workman (4-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (16-13,10-1 SWAC). The southpaw went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven.
Brown went 3-for-5 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with four RBIs. Junior Justen Crews added to Brown's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Freshman Jay Campbell also chipped in for the Rattlers, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Crews and a two-run home run from Brown.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the fourth inning. Florida A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Florida A&M held Jackson State without a run before expanding their lead to 8-0 the following inning.
Florida A&M held the Tigers without a run before their offense got in gear the next inning. Campbell crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Rattlers, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 9-0.
Jackson State got within 9-1 until the Rattlers scored again in the seventh inning to stretch its lead to 11-1. Florida A&M scored twice on Brown's two-run homer. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
