Kaylin Jean-Louis is blending service and media during her professional path forward

Rooted in Service, Rising in Excellence: Kaylin Jean-Louis’ Journey at FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — For many students, college is about finding their path. For Tallahassee native Kaylin Jean-Louis, it has been about creating one.

A broadcast journalism major at Florida A&M University, Jean-Louis is not only building a career in media but also leaving an imprint on her community through service. She is the founder of Kaylin’s Caring Konnection, a nonprofit organization that provides care packages to unhoused individuals and supports youth caregivers in Tallahassee.

What began as a passion project has grown into a sustainable initiative that mobilizes volunteers and resources for overlooked populations.

“I believe when people come together for a common cause, real change happens,” Jean-Louis said. “That’s what fuels my service.”

Her dedication to helping others extends into her professional ambitions. This past summer, Jean-Louis interned at Bloomberg News, one of the world’s leading financial media outlets. The role placed her alongside veteran journalists covering markets, business, and policy at a global scale.

“Bloomberg challenged me to think bigger about the kind of impact I can make with storytelling,” she said. “I want my work to be both informative and transformative.”

On campus, Jean-Louis continues to balance service and career pursuits with success. She holds leadership roles with WANM 90.5 FM, U-Design, and the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication’s social media team, all while maintaining a 3.9 grade-point average.

She also hosts her own radio show, “Inspiring Moments with Kaylin,” which grew out of a podcast she launched in eighth grade to process her parents’ divorce. Today, the program reaches a wide audience with messages of encouragement and faith.

As a new member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Jean-Louis was described as a source of light and strength by Shaniyah Ellies, one of her line sisters.

“She always greets you with a hug, a prayer, and genuine care,” Ellies said. “Kaylin made me feel welcome when I didn’t know I needed it.”

Jean-Louis credits her ability to manage so many responsibilities to faith, discipline and knowing when to prioritize.

“It’s truly the grace of God,” she said. “But I also rely on my planner, my calendar, and the discipline to protect my peace.”

Looking ahead, she hopes to grow KJMedia, her media brand, into a full-service company that helps people bring their stories and creative visions to life.

“She’s not just doing this for a grade,” said Terrence Ward, station manager at WANM 90.5. “She’s doing this to make a difference.”

From her nonprofit work in Tallahassee to her internship at Bloomberg, Jean-Louis exemplifies the FAMU spirit of “Excellence With Caring” — using every platform she touches to uplift, inform, and inspire.
