Poppell Selected by San Francisco Giants in 13th Round of MLB Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M catcher Broedy Poppell is headed to the pros.

The San Francisco Giants selected the Rattlers' junior in the 13th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on Monday, making him the 386th overall pick and the latest FAMU player to join the professional ranks.

Poppell, a 5-foot-10 switch-hitter from Tallahassee, emerged as one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top backstops during the 2025 season. Known for his defensive leadership and plate discipline, he helped guide FAMU to a strong conference finish while anchoring the team behind the plate.

"We're incredibly proud of Broedy and what he's accomplished here at FAMU," head coach Jamey Shouppe said. "He's been a leader on and off the field, and the Giants are getting a smart, hard-working player."

Poppell continues a trend of Rattlers making waves on the national stage. His selection marks a milestone for the university's baseball program, which has focused heavily on player development in recent years.
