Rattlers Strike Panthers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --Freshman Matthew Perez put together an outstanding outing at the plate Saturday, hitting two home runs to help propel the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Prairie View A&M Panthers 11-1.
Freshman Garrett Workman (3-2) got the win for Florida A&M (13-12,). The left-hander went six innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing four walks and striking out seven. Senior Cody Williams also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out two.
Perez went 2-for-4 at the plate, supplementing his two home runs with two RBIs. Sophomore Josue Figueroa added to Perez's awesome power-hitting performance by going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI. Junior Justen Crews also chipped in for the Rattlers, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning.
The Panthers failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Prairie View A&M narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 6-1 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the fourth inning.
Florida A&M held the Panthers scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. The Rattlers scored twice on Figueroa's two-run homer, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 11-1. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
