Florida A&M falls to Troy 13-3

TROY, Ala. -- Junior Broedy Poppell went 1-for-4 with two RBI for the Florida A&M Rattlers in a 13-3 loss to the No. 18 Troy Trojans on Wednesday.

Senior Jesus Campa (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Florida A&M (14-15). Senior Cody Williams was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

At the plate, the Rattlers were led by Poppell, who went 1-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Freshman Jay Campbell put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Jalen Niles also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Poppell drove in two runs for Florida A&M with a single, that scored junior Ethan Miller and Niles.

The Rattlers deficit grew to 8-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fifth inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on Campbell's two-out RBI double, which tightened the Trojans lead to 8-3. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Troy added five runs to their tally on the way to a 13-3 final.
