FAMU SJGC’s WANM-FM 90.5 Named Best University Radio Station of the Year
By Office of Communications
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Media Awards has named Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) student-run campus radio station, WANM-FM 90.5, "The Flava Station," the Best College/University Station (Under 10,000 Students) for 2024-25.
WANM is housed in FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC), with journalism, public relations, and graphic design students—supported by educators and industry experts—playing a vital role in its daily operations. Full-time and part-time students from across the campus community also contribute to programming.
FAMU was the only historically Black college or university (HBCU) recognized by the IBS Media Awards, underscoring SJGC’s impact as a national leader in student-run media.
“We are proud of WANM’s long history of providing high-quality programming while serving as a training ground for the next generation of industry leaders and media professionals,” said SJGC Dean Mira Lowe.
Michael Trim is doing some sideline reporting for WANM Sports at a home FAMU football game.
WANM also received several finalist awards in multiple categories, including:
- Best On-Air Personality: Jaedah Davis, “The Kickback”
- Best Station Contest: “90.5 DJ Battle Silent Headphone Party,” Ja’Caiya Stephens, Jayla Royal, Sydney Rencher
- Best Spot News: “Election Special: First-Time Voters,” Imara Caston
- Best Sports Update: “PrimeTime Sports,” Michael Trim Jr.
