FAMU Falls in Series Opener at BCU

SANFORD, Fla. --Freshman Broedy Poppell went 1-for-5 with two RBI for the Florida A&M Rattlers in an 8-3 loss to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Thursday.

Freshman Garrett Workman (5-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Florida A&M (19-16, 13-3). Freshman Brent Sims was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers were trailing 5-0 in the seventh inning when they first put runs on the board. Poppell drove in two runs for Florida A&M with a single, that scored junior Caden Slappey and senior Jalen Niles.

The Wildcats expanded their lead to 8-2 before the Rattlers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the eighth. Florida A&M pushed across a run on freshman Matthew Perez's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 8-3 in favor of the Wildcats. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
