Welcome to the Alfred Lawson Jr. Multi-Purpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium. Opened in 2009, the 135,000 square foot facility is a shared occupancy structure on campus. Named for longtime legislator and FAMU graduate Al Lawson Jr., the center houses the Department of Health Physical Education and Recreation, men's and women's basketball, volleyball and the basketball coaches' offices.
The Lawson Center features seating capacity of 9,639, classrooms, a dance studio, a computer lab with workstations, a TV Production room, a media workroom, wireless internet, a hydrotherapy area, an examination and treatment area and a rehabilitation area. Many special events such as Commencement, Convocation and Homecoming take place in the Lawson Center.
