FAMU Announces Kelley Bolden Bailey as Dean of FAMU Online

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Florida A&M University (FAMU) has announced Kelley Bolden Bailey, Ph.D., as dean of FAMU Online, effective Feb. 3. FAMU Online is the University’s hub for academic programs delivered through distance learning. With a proven track record of innovative leadership in online education, Bailey will play a pivotal role in providing accessible, high-quality, and transformative learning experiences for students worldwide.
“Today marks an exciting new chapter for FAMU Online,” said Provost Allyson L. Watson, Ph.D. “Dr. Bailey’s wealth of expertise will undoubtedly elevate our online programs by expanding educational access that extends far beyond the geographic limitations of a traditional brick-and-mortar infrastructure.”
Bailey has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, specializing in curriculum design and technology integration initiatives prioritizing student success, technological innovation, and workforce alignment. Her career highlights include serving as STEM curriculum project manager for a $5 million grant through the National Telecommunications Information Act (NTIA) and as director of the Candidate Empowerment Center (CEC) at the FAMU College of Education.
As an assistant professor and instructional designer for FAMU’s online MBA program, she has demonstrated exceptional skill in creating engaging, student-centered online learning environments for the renowned School of Business and Industry.
“It’s an honor to lead FAMU Online at such a transformative time in higher education with the emergence of new digital strategies for achieving greater levels of student success,” said Bailey. “I look forward to collaborating with faculty, staff, and key stakeholders to create dynamic learning experiences that empower our students to excel academically.”
According to Franzetta D. Fitz, Ph.D., assistant provost for Digital and Online Education, three percent of students are currently enrolled in 13 online degree programs at FAMU.
“Under Dr. Bailey’s leadership, FAMU is poised to see strategic growth and development of our digital and online learning portfolio, ensuring alignment with industry needs and FAMU’s commitment to academic excellence,” said Fitz.
Kelley Bailey Bolden, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in educational leadership and human services from Florida A&M University. She serves as a commissioner of the City of Tallahassee Downtown Redevelopment Commission and holds leadership roles in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Links, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Her research contributions include topics covering virtual reality in education, diversity in facility management, and innovative online pedagogy.
