Rattlers Strike Braves in Series Opener

LORMAN, Miss. --The Florida A&M Rattlers broke through after a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning to take down the Alcorn State Braves 4-3 Thursday.

Senior Cody Williams (4-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (28-23, 22-6). The right-hander went four shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four. Freshman Garrett Workman also made an impact on the mound for the Rattlers, starting the ballgame and throwing five innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 3-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from junior Justen Crews.

The game remained tied until the seventh inning, when the Rattlers got going again on offense. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Ben Kim, which brought the Rattlers lead to 4-3. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as Florida A&M held on for the win. 63 83 30 9 4
