FAMU Crushes AAMU 17-2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  -- Justen Crews put together an outstanding outing at the plate Friday, hitting for the cycle to help propel the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 17-2.

Freshman Garrett Workman (6-4) got the win for Florida A&M. The southpaw went five shutout innings, giving up six hits, one walk and striking out seven. Freshman Brent Sims also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run double off the bat of freshman Justin Lopez.

The Bulldogs failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the third inning. The Florida A&M offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of sophomore Josue Figueroa and a two-run single from Lopez, which brought the Rattlers lead to 13-0.

Florida A&M held Alabama A&M scoreless before expanding their lead to 15-0 the following inning. The Rattlers scored two runs off of Alabama A&M pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Crews.

The Bulldogs gained ground, closing the gap to 15-2 until Florida A&M added some insurance in the sixth. The Rattlers scored twice on Crews' two-run homer, bringing the score to 17-2 in favor of Florida A&M. The score remained 17-2 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
