Rattlers Top Hornets to Clinch Series
MONTGOMERY, Ala. --The Florida A&M Rattlers got three hits out of senior Kiauna Watson in a 4-3 victory over the Alabama State Hornets Sunday.
Senior Samantha Smith (5-3) got the win for Florida A&M (23-18, 19-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing seven walks and striking out one. Junior Amari Brown started the ballgame and went one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Watson's three-hit day led the Rattlers offensively. Freshman Keeleigh Spooner put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Clare Maple also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Watson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board.
The Hornets then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Rattlers got back on the board in the third. Watson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which evened the score at 2-2.
That 2-2 tie turned into a 4-2 Florida A&M lead in the fourth. The Rattlers added two to their tally on Spooner's two-run homer to left. Alabama State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still held on for the 4-3 win.
