Florida A&M Splits Series Opener at Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Florida A&M split with Alabama State on Satuurday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. ASU won the opener 9-7 and FAMU rolled to a 7-2 win in game two.

GAME 2 | Florida A&M 7, Alabama State 2

Florida A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Rattlers put seven runs on the board and take down the Alabama State Hornets 7-2 Saturday.

Freshman Amari Brown (8-5) got the win for Florida A&M (22-18, 18-5). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing five walks and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of freshman Brianna Duggins.

The Hornets failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the third inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on freshman Keeleigh Spooner's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Rattlers

Florida A&M kept Alabama State scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-0 the following inning.

The Hornets gained ground, closing the gap to 6-1 until Florida A&M added some insurance in the sixth. The Rattlers drove home a run on freshman Jamison Townsend's two-out RBI double, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 7-1. Alabama State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Rattlers still coasted to the 7-2 win.

Game 2 | Alabama State 9, Florida A&M 7 HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers then held the Hornets scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Clare Maple, which brought the Rattlers lead to 6-0.

Alabama State fought back to even the ballgame at six before Florida A&M reclaimed a 7-6 advantage in the fifth inning. The Rattlers were unable to hold the lead, as Alabama State scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 9-7 win.
