Florida A&M Falls to Alabama State in SWAC tourney; Will Play Texas Southern on Thursday
GULFPORT, Miss. -- Alabama State defeated Florida A&M 7-3 in the second round of the SWAC Tournament. The Rattlers will match-up with Texas Southern on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. EST.
Junior Amari Brown (8-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Florida A&M (24-19).
At the plate, the Rattlers were paced by Brown, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Junior Keeleigh Spooner compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Jamison Townsend also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers were trailing 4-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Hornets expanded their lead to 6-2 before the Rattlers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the third. Florida A&M pushed across a run on Spooner's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Hornets. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Alabama State added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-3 final.
