Florida A&M Rolls Past Grambling State 11-4
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --It was a rough day for Grambling pitchers, as the Florida A&M Rattlers plated 11 runs en route to an 11-4 win over the Tigers on Saturday.
Sophomore Carson Kelly (4-1) got the win out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (20-20, ). The left-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M got an RBI single from junior Justen Crews, scoring freshman Jay Campbell from second base.
The Rattlers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 2-1. Florida A&M picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the Rattlers lead to 3-2.
Florida A&M's lead had disappeared once the sixth inning arrived and turned into a 4-3 Grambling advantage, when the Rattlers re-took control at 5-4. The Rattlers picked up a couple on a two-run triple off the bat of freshman Broedy Poppell.
Florida A&M held the Tigers scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Rattlers scored six runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run walk off the bat of Crews, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 11-4. The score remained 11-4 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
