Florida A&M falls to Troy
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --The Florida A&M Rattlers took an 8-7 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 10-8 to the Troy Trojans Wednesday.
Senior Cody Williams (1-1) came out of the bullpen for Florida A&M (11-12) and took the loss. Senior Brandon Walker was a bright spot for the Rattlers, coming out of the bullpen as well and throwing one shutout inning, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Rattlers were paced by junior William Brown, who went 1-for-5 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Freshman Broedy Poppell put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk. Junior Ethan Miller also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run groundout off the bat of senior Jalen Niles.
The Trojans failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Miller, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Troy narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 7-5 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 8-5 in the sixth inning. The Rattlers recorded a run on Brown's leadoff home run off senior Kelly Crumpton. The Rattlers were unable to hold the lead, as Troy scored five times over the remaining three innings to grab the 10-8 win.
