History will be made at Florida A&M University when SGA President Zayla Bryant and SGA Vice President Kennedy Williams are officially inaugurated as the first all-female Student Government Association (SGA) administrators. The inauguration ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25 in the Grand Ballroom, celebrating this significant achievement while bringing in a new class of student leaders for the 2025-2026 academic year.
“I'm excited to leave a legacy that is rooted in true community and driven by the vision that every rattler is able to lead and have a positive impact on their communities if you do the work, stand for what you believe in and persevere,” said Williams, a history pre-law major. “I hope that our administration will leave a legacy steeped in advocacy and consideration for all FAMU students."
The inauguration will also recognize other newly elected officials, including Nikiyah Brown, 55th Student Senate president; Harmony Person, 55th Student Senate pro-tempore; Jaylen Butler, chief justice of the Student Supreme Court, and Justin Thomas, associate chief justice of the Student Supreme Court.
This year, the SGA administration expanded the celebration to a week of events, compared to a single-day celebration in 2024. The week started off with service on Sunday, Sept. 21, at New Mt. Zion AME Church to center the team before a full week of events. An open house followed on Monday in the Efferson Student Union. SGA week was designed for students to be able to meet the Student Government leaders who work around the clock for students.
Other highlights included the “Know Your Rights” workshop, Rattlers in the Den: Open Mic, and Dunk or Dodge, with the week concluding with the Inauguration Ball to honor the newly elected officials for the 2025-2026 academic year.
"Alongside the heads of the Judicial and Legislative branch, we planned a week of fun and engaging events for the student body to learn more about the students who represent them and learn more about politics in general,” explained Bryant, a senior business major.
