Florida A&M Crushes Alcorn State 14-2
LORMAN, Mss. --Florida A&M received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Rattlers put 14 runs on the board and knock off the Alcorn State Braves 14-2 Friday.
Senior Jesus Campa (3-2) got the win for Florida A&M (29-33, 23-6). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
Offensively, the Rattlers were paced by freshman Jay Campbell, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, two walks and three RBIs. Junior Justen Crews compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior Ethan Miller also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Florida A&M plated two runs off of Alcorn State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Crews.
The Braves then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Rattlers expanded their advantage in the third. The Florida A&M offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of junior William Brown, which brought the score to 8-1 in favor of the Rattlers.
Florida A&M held Alcorn State without a run before building their lead to 12-1 in the fifth inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Campbell.
Florida A&M held the Braves scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. Freshman Matthew Perez's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Rattlers, bringing the score to 14-1 in favor of Florida A&M. Alcorn State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Rattlers still coasted to the 14-2 win.
