Florida A&M Completes Series Sweep of Texas Southern
HOUSTON, Texas -- Junior Ethan Miller racked up six RBIs to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Texas Southern Tigers 15-4 on Sunday.
Freshman Jay Campbell (3-0) got the win for Florida A&M (27-23, 21-6). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Senior Trenten Langley also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.
Miller went 3-for-5 with two doubles in addition to his six RBIs for the Rattlers. Broedy Poppell put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-6 with a double and four RBIs. Junior Jordan Brown also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with three runs in the top of the first inning. Miller's bases-clearing double put all three runs on the board in the inning for Florida A&M.
The Rattlers then held the Tigers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Brown came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Rattlers.
Texas Southern narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 4-2 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 10-2 in the fourth inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Miller.
Florida A&M held the Tigers scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The Rattlers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Poppell, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 11-2.
Texas Southern got within 11-4 until the Rattlers scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 15-4. The Florida A&M offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Poppell. The score remained 15-4 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
